About Zhejiang
Zhejiang is situated in the southeastern coastal area of China, on the southern flank of the Yangtze River Delta, bordering the largest Chinese city of Shanghai. The province covers a land area of 101,800 sq. km and in 2006 has a permanent resident population of 49.8 million. It has 11 cities under its jurisdiction, namely, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Wenzhou, Jiaxing, Huzhou, Shaoxing, Jinhua, Quzhou, Zhoushan, Taizhou and Lishui.
Zhejiang has a well-developed transportation network. The province boasts 7 railway lines and 7 airports including those in Hangzhou and Ningbo. Ningbo-Zhoushan Port is the second largest port in mainland China.
In 2006, the GDP of Zhejiang hit 1564.9 billion Yuan, up 13.6% over the previous year. Zhejiang province is one of the most prosperous and dynamic provinces with per capita GDP exceeding 4,000 USD. Open economy in the province grows rapidly, and in 2006, the actually utilized foreign investment totaled 8.89 billion USD, and the import and export turnover amounted to 139.15 billion USD, ranking 5th in the nation. Till the end of 2006, the total outward investment volume of the province had reached 1.132 billion USD. |
